Research independently

I confirmed the agency’s legal or public business identity, official website, contact details, roster or client evidence, and physical location where applicable. I searched for consistent independent information and did not rely only on a direct message, logo, follower count, or testimonial. I know who I am meeting, their role, and how the meeting will work. I told a trusted person where I will be; if I am a minor, my parent or legal guardian is directly involved.

Questions to ask

What categories, clients, and geographic markets does the agency actually serve? Is representation exclusive, nonexclusive, regional, or category-specific? How are commissions, fees, advances, chargebacks, expenses, and payment timing handled? Who selects photographers, classes, websites, or services, and may I use qualified providers I choose? How are submissions, bookings, image rights, conflicts, travel, and communication managed?

Before agreeing

I received the full agreement and did not sign under artificial time pressure. I understand duration, renewal, termination, exclusivity, commissions, expenses, disputes, and image or name usage. No one promised guaranteed representation, bookings, income, or a specific client in exchange for immediate payment. I will seek a parent, guardian, representative, attorney, or other qualified adviser when terms are unclear.

Costs require context

Legitimate professional expenses can exist, and business models vary.
